The British Columbia Vital Statistics Agency is the provincial government agency legislatively mandated to register vital events and provide certification services for all vital events occurring in the Province of British Columbia. Please note that each province in Canada maintains its own vital event registry to record vital events occurring in each province.
This Electronic Vital Statistics Services (EVSS) ordering system has been developed to make it possible for you to process citizen requests for Vital Statistics services.
During the mail service interruption:
- The Vital Statistics Agency continues to provide services; however, the delivery and receipt of mail has been impacted by the mail service interruption.
- To mitigate the effects of the interruption, the Vital Statistics Agency has activated its mail services contingency plan and continues to assess additional delivery options to reduce any impact on clients.
- Individuals who submit a rush application for certificates or documents will be contacted directly by the Vital Statistics Agency to arrange pick-up at an available Service BC location.
- Additional information regarding ordering certificates can be found at Birth, adoption, death, marriage and divorce - Province of British Columbia.
NOTE: If your clients are applying for a certificate or photocopy of a registration to support an application for other identification such as a Passport, Driver's Licence, BC ID, Social Insurance Number etc, the client should check with the requesting organization to ensure they obtain the correct document.
Registration Photocopies are rarely needed by citizens and are generally only required for court purposes. Photocopies cannot be used as identification. Clients interested in obtaining their time of birth or weight at birth should apply for a Genealogy Certified Birth Registration Copy.
